Curious about what it takes to live and work successfully in another country? This program explores the opportunities, challenges, and realities of international assignments and helps you determine whether working abroad could be the right fit for you. Participants will learn how to assess and prepare for an international assignment, understand the importance of purpose and mission when working across cultures, and apply the principle of “think global, act local.” Through practical frameworks, examples, and lessons learned, the program will also explore common pitfalls and strategies for adapting to a new workplace, community, and culture. By the end of the program, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to evaluate international opportunities, prepare for an assignment, and position themselves to thrive personally and professionally while working abroad.

This program will walk through real-world examples in international assignments and cross-cultural work, showing how practical frameworks support the process from assessing opportunities and preparing for a move to adapting in a new workplace and thriving abroad. Accelerators range from 4-12 hours of contact time. To earn your badge of completion, you must achieve a minimum of 70% in three Key Performance areas: Attendance, Participation, and Activities/Assignments. The instructor will provide a specific rubric outlining the Key Performance areas in the course syllabus.
Meet Your Instructor
Jim Reynolds has spent 30+ years building consumer brand businesses in 10 countries, including 18 years with Nike. He has served primarily in General Manager roles including GM of Nike Russia and GM of Nike Japan, and has also performed leadership roles in Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Strategic Planning. Jim serves on the Denison Board of Advisors and the Providence Portland Medical Foundation board. Jim earned his BA in English and Economics from Denison University, where he was awarded the Alumni Citation in 2025, and earned his MBA in Corporate Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
